Reliance’s retail construction experience ranges from individual stores, strip centers, power centers, big box stores and regional shopping malls, to individual high end boutiques. Our dossier in the retail sector features some fifty shopping centers, over 100 big box stores, and a client base that includes some of the most aggressive retail chains on the continent. Forced by the nature of their business to be especially intolerant of construction delays, retailers are drawn to Reliance by the Company’s consistently successful performance in projects with tough deadlines. Customer satisfaction is evident in the volume of repeat business: Wal-Mart, Sears, Costco, Zellers, Rona and Toys ‘R' Us alone account for almost sixty stores completed in the last ten years.

Construction of a new commercial retail center of approximately 1,000,000 square feet, including major civil works and urban spaces beginning construction in fall 2021. The first phase consists of the construction of a 210,000 square foot commercial building, for two (2) new retail stores, complete with a 180,000 square foot greenhouse above the retail area. Project delivery is scheduled for the fall 2022.

Reliance Construction proudly celebrates the accomplishment of completing three Nike stores in just eight months. These stores include a Quebec City location in Galerie De La Capitale, another in Laval's Carrefour Laval, and a flagship store in Montreal's Eaton Center. Working alongside Nike's Design Team based out of Spain, Toronto's BDP Quadrangle, and Fox Group (One of the world’s largest retailors and based out of Israel), these collaborations have resulted in meticulously crafted stores ranging from 7,500 to 30,000 square feet. The project highlights Reliance Construction's dedication and expertise in commercial construction, merging architectural innovation with precision.
Holt Renfrew Boutiques 2020  |  46,288 sf

Reliance was responsible for the fit up and contracting for 106 designer boutiques totalling over 46,000 sf, inside the Holt Renfrew flagship store, working with suppliers and designers from all over the world, in a synchronized manner to coordinate a store opening date.
Ogilvy - Holt Renfrew 2019  |  217,000 sf

The complete renovation and transformation of the existing 217,000 square foot Ogilvy Store as well as an expansion of 40,000 sf of retail space in the new Quadrilatère de la Montagne building started in the fall of 2017. A unique feature of this project is the articulated storefront and canopy at the new public entrance, on Ave. de la Montagne. This project became the flagship store for the Holt Renfrew banner.

The renovation of this existing commercial shopping center includes complete asbestos abatement and the addition of a brand new foodcourt and grocery store while tenants remain in operation. The project was designed by Geiger Huot Architects and is scheduled for completion in April 2018.

Galeries de la Capitale has revamped its attraction park! Inspired by the steampunk universe, the new Méga Parc includes 18 rides and attractions, the longest skating path in the country, a stage with a complete sound system, a giant screen, an interactive water fountain displaying sound and light choreography and the very first hubless wheel in North America! The construction started in September 2017.

Major renovation of a 30 year mall in Quebec City, owned by Oxford Group and their partners. The renovation included a new food court area on the 2nd floor following a relocation from its original space, new entrances, new public spaces, the reconstruction of retail space in the old dining area, the replacement of escalators, new elevators, and the complete renovation of all the common spaces totalling 98,000 sq.ft.. Among other things, during the renovation of the ground floor, all the subgrade infrastructure was completely remediated for pyrite.

Located on the corner of Bay & College Street, 777 Bay St. is a 30 storey Class "A" tower with two levels of retail concourse, bridging the gap between Bloor Street and Toronto's financial core. 777 Bay Street is one of the pioneer buildings in Toronto's dynamic neighborhood where recent growth is seen in the residential, commercial, and retail sectors. Surrounding the building within a one block radius is Toronto's hospital corridor, the MaRS Medical Research Development, and Queen's Park.
Construction included a complete renovation of the two floor retail concourse along with the building's 3 lobbies, exterior 32,000 SF plaza, and the addition of 4 new elevators to accommodate the building's increased densification program.

Harry Rosen 1999, 2003, 2006, 2013, 2016  |  9,000-31,000 sf

Reliance’s reputation for attention to detail promoted the company to successfully enter into contract with Harry Rosen Retail Stores, the standard in high end men’s fashion throughout Canada, to build their flagship downtown Montreal store of 25,000 square feet on two floors. The store included specialized boutiques, an atrium, escalators, luxurious floor finishes and fixtures. In addition, Reliance completed other retail stores for Harry Rosen in Ottawa's Rideau Center Mall, Montreal's Rockland Mall and Carrefour Laval. In 2015, Reliance has undertaken the expansion and renovations of Harry Rosen’s downtown store, updating the brand of the clothing company on a total sales floor area of 31,600 square feet.

As part of Target's entrance into Canada and the opening of 125 new stores, Target interviewed and pre-selected Reliance as one of it's 11 general contractors across Canada to convert existing Zellers stores to Target's standards. Reliance's work involved stores in Quebec and Ontario and included everything from new facades, to structural work, including seismic upgrades and complete new interiors beyond shell. Reliance complied with a rigorous 16 week schedule mandated by Target for their conversions.
